Winter Quarters is located in Omaha, Nebraska. It was a pioneer settlement which was established as a stopping off point for those pioneers traveling from the east to Salt Lake City.
I don't think we would have made very good handcart pioneers.
Some people had enough money that they could take covered wagons.

These are sculptures in a park in downtown Omaha commemorating the migration of the pioneers. It looks like a very hard trip with many obstacles to overcome.

Latter-day Saints in Kanesville, Iowa.
The Mormon Battalion was sent out from Winter Quarters.
